Fiji's "sugar city", Lautoka has long been a major exporter of sugar made from sugar cane. During June and December the harvest is milled into sugar. Cruise ships dock at the wharf which is less than half a mile to the city. Passengers will be aware that the income level for Fiji is much less than for their countries.
We took a tour that included Fijian dance and singing along with a kava ceremony. Because the Fijian entertainers wanted to show us their traditions, what might have been just a touristy event was very entertaining (Videos are below).
Following this we visited Raymond Burr's Garden of the Sleeping Giant a private garden he designed to show his thousands of orchards. If you like flowers, you will like this garden.
Tours will take you to a shopping market in Nadi. The market is geared to tourists and has all of the souvenirs you may want although I'm not sure they are all made in Fiji.
The tour buss will also stop by the the largest Hindu temple in the South Pacific.
ATM: None near the dock. Our ship had Fijian firm onboard who changed money and mailed letters.
